I don't understand what the big deal is about students all of a sudden not being able to wear hoodies or hooded jackets at RHS. It's absurd to me. It's bad enough that they are so picky about the uniforms that some schools have to wear. Some families are larger than others and don't have the finances to be able to run out and purchase clothing. If you ask me, I think too much time is being spent on what the students are wearing rather than learning in the classroom. I understand that students shouldn't wear revealing clothing, clothing with inappropiate words or pictures or sag their pants. The jacket situation just really struck a nerve with me.

Well the times have changed since we all were younger! I haven't heard of the hoodies yet but my kids are still in elementary. I will have to ask my stepson because he is in high school.

Did they say of why they can't wear them anymore? I just read that it is due to physical design of schools of why their being permitted to wear them. I guess its because some kids might wear them all day and not be paying attention in class.

Well I will explain a little I do I agree with you that they spend too much time worrying about the students attire rather than the education aspect which is what they sould be worried about, after all they aren't the fashion police they are a school system. The reason they are ditching the hoodies could be the fact that the students are wearing them all the time, I mean no matter the temperature, 100 degrees to 20 degrees they just wear them. I don't understand that. I have a friend who's son is 15 and he does that. His father finally told him to stop wearing it when it was not cold outside or he would get rid of all of them lol. I believe that the schools are afraid that the students may be smuggling things in or hiding things in the front pocket or texting in that front pouch or something like that. When I got out of High School they were starting that whole "telling students how to dress" thing and it is VERY FRUSTRATING especially as a parent!

I also believe it's a fashion statement for a certain 'group' of kids.  Like the pants hanging below the butt, or trench coats etc...  Also the kids will wear the hoods up, and it covers their eyes and faces.

I do understand where you are coming from though.  I'm sure it must be tough finding 'the right' clothes for school, and not having to repurchase them again and again.

They have not given any specific reason for not being able to wear the hoodies any more. Yet the school sells them with the school logo on them and they can be worn. Make sense??? Sounds like contradiction to me! Seriously though, who cares if they wear them all the time except for parents tired of seeing them in the same thing. As far as I'm concerned, as long as they aren't wearing the hoods on their heads during school hours, what does it matter. Did they ever think that maybe the classrooms are a little too cold? I know all my kids have complained about their classroom being chilly at times. As far as students hiding stuff in their clothing, they can hide stuff anywhere. I've heard they stuff their socks, shoes, underwear, bras, cut out compartments in books, etc......you name it!

My daughter goes to RHS and wears her school hoodie almost everyday since it has become chilly outside.  I haven't heard of any restrictions on wearing hoodies. Anything I need to know?

One day last week over the intercom they told students that beginning Monday, Nov. 2nd, they would not be allowed to wear hoodies. My son and other parents told me that staff members were checking students as they entered the school and if they had a hoodie, they confiscated them. I have tried contacting the school to speak to someone about the issue, but have been given the run around. Have you asked your daughter?

yes. I asked her to day and she said it was for high school.  She is in middle school so I guess it is okay to wear hoodies n middle school as long as they're RHS hoodies.

As far as I know it only pertains to the high school students. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if eventually the same thing happens at the middle school.

Call your Board member.  It's ridiculous to change the dress code during the school year unless it' a security or safety concern.  Even then I would demand to know how a hoodie would fall into those concerns.  Because it has a hood?  Please!!!
